It is said so in the manual and also in the features DVD (that one gets if you have factory Navigation installed). They clearly state that Altima will Automatically "change" the gears when in Ds mode. All the change is doing is changing the computer from operating the transmission (and maybe suspension if you have one of them fancy ones) in a normal "ECO" mode to a more sporty mode, i.e., waiting long to shift.
