Unfortunately there is a difference between a Derelict Freighter as a random space encounter and a Derelict Freighter you find with a Emergency Broadcast Receiver. The random encounter version doesn't have any interior, so you can't land on it, but there are often 1-2 cargo pods you can destroy for some resources.
Doing a derelict freighter run has about a 50% chance that it doesn't crash for me I would say. It is specially bad when doing a derelict run together with someone else, it probably crashes 90% of the time for me.
