Bladebound Kensai is most likely the build you want for DEX based. There are several ways to do this. The most common is with intensified Shocking Grasp, with magical knack or Wayang spell hunter used to keep the spell at 1st level. Rimed Frostbite is a popular debuff build, using the same traits to keep Frostbite at 1st level.
Magus is not a novice-friendly class. If you just need 2-handed weapons with some casting abilities, Fighter+Wizard or Fighter+Sorcerer would be easier to handle. Multiclass is pretty simple - you replace one of the class feat with special multiclass dedication feat. After this, you could spend your class feat for either your base class feat or ... Ditto. Use self buffs, get 4 elements on your weapon (three with arcana), and grab Elemental Barrage. That's the basic way magus works right now. Str builds is more damage, while Dex builds can go into high AC tanks easier. Given the builds above, you can create a good Magus with almost every race: anything with a boost to str, dex or int is a decent choice. Of course, small races should avoid the strength build. The races offer various bonuses for a favored class; however, as a frontliner with d8 hit dice, I recommend simply taking an extra hit point each level.
