By far, the easiest way I know of to feed gems to the compressor is via conveyor belt leading right up to it. Can't drop them in from above unless the "lid" is bugged in a way I am unaware of. It can only do one kind of gem. Yep one type, have sorters that put the different gems into different compressors :) It can now only do one type of gem at a time.
