Short answer: yes. Long answer: depends, some books are amazing as lore substitutes, other books are basically mandatory for understanding current plotlines while still being retconned by those same plotlines. I would recommend reading War of the Ancients Trilogy, the Arthas book, Stormrage, and the Illidan book.We all know Vrykuls were the evolutionary predecessors of humans that weren't as tainted by the curse of flesh as the humans were. Sylvanas was massively iconic. She was the dark but bargainable side of the world. Nightborne are a completely different ecological group from Night Elves; they’re the population of Suramar cut off from the rest of the Night Elves and warped by their power source the Nightwell over 10,000 years. Garrosh was in control of whatever the Heart of Y'shaarj did for him, and his Horde focused on controlling the elements and other sources of power rather than dealing in "contracts" (shaman and warlocks) or worshipping (druids/priests) or being pawns like the Old Horde. Hence why the Dark Shaman twisted the elements to their control.
I liked to imagine some Orc Mages were penitent Warlocks, but younger ones were likely just interested in magic and had plenty of opportunities to study Arcane in the modern Horde.
