To start exploring the Pond Lab you have to start deeper and access it from below. Look for the T-Rex and then follow the fans/lights, there is a bit of a tip.
You can't just yet. Did you ever figure this out? 1.0 is released and I still can't figure out how to unlock that door. If it's the one I'm think it is, there is a hatch behind the main lab just as you come in depths mouth, it's up in the roof.
