I think if the game had introduced the idea of forcing the player to use baton pass to win throughout the palace in easier fights then people would’ve been more prepared and taken the boss as a final test rather than a fuck you.

The Palace should have been a factory, not a spaceport. I find that the actual experience of going through the Palace is largely overhated, but there are still issues. The airlock puzzles aren't that bad, but I do very much despise the break-time puzzles. The Okumura boss fight is easily the worst part.
