At first I thought it was a wheel stud spinning in the hub, but after closer examination, it was the lug nut threads that had completely seperated and came out as one long thin strip of metal. I replaced the nut and it torqued without issue. As far as issue with the size of the lug nuts to wheel size, it seems to be a non-issue.
