Jm stamp marlin.
Rifles are no different. I have a Marlin 444, JM stamped that probably never saw 100 rounds fired through it. The action is tight, and sometimes jams during cycling. I attribute this to the fact that the tolerances are just tight. Need to work the action more, but ammo is expensive. Remington makes the Marlin rifle now, so it is what it is.

So, I love the old Marlin lever actions. Most people that are fans prefer a gun that has a JM stamp on the barrel as that indicates it was made in Marlin's barrel factory as Marlin turned out better barrels. They feel that once Remington bought Marlin that the quality decreased. I have a few Marlins where the JM was lightly or partially stamped.Heck,they completely missed the stamp on my 1947 Marlin 39A. I don't think the JM with oval proof stamp was used much after the 1970s IIRC. I have a model 1894, serial no. 96011xxx, with a "JM" stamp that I find questionable. Unlike the crisp, clean stamp on my .444, the 1894 "stamp", although it is the same size, looks like it may have been applied with a tool other than a stamp. ...
