Here's your first look at Horizon Walker, a Universal enhancement tree currently slated for Update 50. Horizon Walker has popped up in a couple of editions of D&D at this point, as a variant option in 3.5e and a Ranger path in 5e. In this adaptation, the Horizon Walker is a hunter that traverses planes, hunting extraplanar enemies with a Bow.

I would say wield a longsword and shield, or a greatsword/axe as the horizon walker is about one powerful attack. If you weren't being melee, you could take a longbow and focus on that.

Heavy Crossbow Ranger with Crossbow Expert and Sharpshooter can also work, though it's worth noting that requires an extra feat for little benefit. The thing is horizon walker uses their bonus action to make their dmg force and to add a 1d8 onto it with no rests required. Shilelagh is a bonus action cantrip mean I would lose my ability every time. Also it increases in dmg at 11. Shillelagh lasts an entire minute. So you'd only need cast it once per fight.

Horizon Walker is the most tricky ranger to find a good level to multiclass out of IMO. Level 9 gives you Haste Level 10 sucks. Level 11 gives you an amazing subclass feature. Level 12 gives you ASI, and if you went either CE/SS or SS/Alert as I like to do it, or you didn't play a vhuman, you need the ASI to max DEX.

Bows without horizon walker are very mediocre, unless you limit yourself to normal or hard mode. For build advice, i suggest just making a thread asking for detailed information on how to make a build. It helps if you have D&D 3.5 knowledge but you can still learn from scratch without it. Basically I took a typical ranged DPS build and, well, gimped it by investing in as many pet bonuses as I could: namely both Augment Summoning feats, most Dark Hunter wolf enhancements, and Natural Shielding from Primal Avatar.
