Heavy Duty solenoid replaces the OEM solenoid that is the most common cause of incorrect shifting in the Dodge RE series transmission. This solenoid is a DIRECT REPLACEMENT for the OEM solenoid and DOES NOT require any adapters or conversion kits to be used. A code P0340 could mean one or more of the following has happened: a wire or connector in the circuit could be grounded/shorted/broken. the camshaft position sensor may have failed. the PCM may have failed. there exists an open circuit. a crankshaft position sensor may have failed. Connected red wire to red wire going to starter solenoid on battery positive side. The alternator is a brand new and so is the wiring harness going into the back/side of the alternator.

Personally I believe the 42re is a reliable transmission. It doesn't really seem to have any common issues, maybe bad solenoids. Mine has 231,000, seems fine. Use the correct fluid, keep them cool, use O/D off when towing anything. Enjoy. There's no exception, if you lifted your jeep, your castor angle is wrong and your steering demonstrates one or more of the following characteristics: 1) The steering wanders, particularly at higher speeds. 2) The steering wheel has a lot of play, usually 1-2" before the wheels turn. 3) The steering wheel doesn't center itself after a turn.Your easiest solution at this point is to cut away the offending area on the skid plate with torches, sawzall, cutting wheel, etc. around where the transfer case is contacting the skid plate. The problem is you let yourself get talked into crossover steering which pretty much always causes steering issues on a TJ. Seeing that I have a 1987 YJ and have been modifying it with older specs; I decided to do the dash conversion.
