A custom tune could add maybe 10-20whp and some tq, 20-30hp if you wanted to be really optimistic. Some more weight could be removed, but we're talking small gains here. To pull off a 9 second 1/4 mile on the stock turbo with nitrous is easier than a 10.2 stock turbo/boost only.

The B58 cars are more expensive up-front, but the cost of a 400whp B48 may quickly exceed the difference. Again, everyone is in a different situation. We understand it may make sense for some people to upgrade their B48 turbo. However, equally as many would rather bite the bullet on the B58 cost up-front if performance is the end goal.

Skip jb4 and go bootmod. Any tuning whether flash or piggyback (JB4) will void warranty. In the case that your car needs an engine/drivetrain fix you will be SOL. N55 sounds a bit better imo but will make less power overall, tuned or not. The B58 still sounds really great and has a larger turbo from factory, and a better intercooler system among other big improvements. 328i engine swap. So I've had my 2012 328i for over a year and did the basic maintenance pretty regularly. Tuned it and upgraded a few parts to keep it somewhat reliable and the engine blew up anyways. The two options I have are to replace the n20 engine and sell it or throw in an n55/b58 and keep it for longer.
