Plasma sword has a faster charge and that's about it. It deals 25 damage on normal attacks and 100 damage on charged melees. Sounds like a no-brainer, but the Heat Sword has a higher base damage and attack rate, as well as charge speed. Dual Heats can hit more than 1 target, and have higher base charge damage (150).

The heat sword is by no means a bad weapon, is it amazing no, but after you have a few weapons to 30 that are slightly modded, you will be able to tell what you like and don't like, go from there.
